THERE was a flutter as Enrico Caruso entered the red room on the Fifth Avenue side of the big restaurant. The proprietor of the establishment turned his back on a group of customers with whom he had just been chatting about the election, and hurried, with an admirable assumption of felicitiy, to do honor to the most popular of all tenors.
